TDL: Applecross 1 Project

ACJ_026 (1)

When a garden is designed in complete respect of the client, the existing Architecture and surrounding landscape, the result is a unifying balance of materials, texture, functionality and scale. Designed and constructed by the team at Tim Davies Landscaping, the Applecross 1 Project is defined by simple clean lines with a touch of eclectic elements that align seamlessly with the existing home.

The client’s brief was simple; “to create a stylish landscape that sits well with the unique architecture of the home”. In response, Tim Davies Landscaping created a garden that grounded the house.

Image 2Within the front garden, layered hedging and clean lines of massed planting work in simple horizontal planes to compliment the strong architectural lines, while also allowing a view towards the surrounding borrowed landscape. Three impressively aged Washingtonia palms were transplanted to the front garden to balance the ground planting and sit perfectly to reflect the true LA aesthetic of the home.

Viewed through double story glass walls, the central courtyard is undoubtedly a focal point within the property. Replicating the architectural lines of the home, a shade structure frames the courtyard, fanning along the parameters to offer protection from the elements whilst still allowing a view into the space from the second story.

Hedge planting of Raphis palms softens the walls of the courtyard, introducing a beautiful texture to the minimal planting palette. Whilst a secondary layer of Magnolias create a screen to enclose the space, providing a real sense of privacy.

A mature Frangipani tree was retained from the existing garden and stands proud in the corner of the courtyard. It’s sculptural form and textured branches contrast vividly against the surrounding walls. A play of light and shadow works to further emphasise the Frangipani’s presence, adding another dimension to the space.

The addition of an elegantly designed pool by Imperial Pools completes the landscape. Gradual steps draw you slowly into the pool, a pace that further reflects the quintessential LA characteristics of the home.

Tim Davies Landscaping manage the ongoing maintenance of this landscape, a valuable service for both the client and TDL to ensure the landscape remains true to the original brief whilst managing the garden as it evolves.
