I must admit to being hesitant to post this garden after it has received so much recent ‘hype’, but I just can’t help it. I have to post it. Please forgive me for following suit. (Bugger judgment!) But, I will now reflect back to November 2014 when I first had the pleasure of being enveloped by this garden and it was love at first sight…
My love stems from the combination of the modernist architecture, the minimalist hardscaping and the quirky combination of textures, colours and planting throughout the property.
The varying degrees of plant hardiness were clearly strategically placed and peaked my interest as I made my way through the garden, walking at a snails pace, ensuring I was able to take it all in as I progressed.
The garden called ‘Number 2’ was designed and installed by Cameron Paterson from Grounded Gardens in 2010. It was designed on the brief that it be relatively low maintenance for owners that travelled often, love eco-friendly architecture and design, and didn’t want the maintenance of lawns.
The garden features a Winter and Summer courtyard. The plant selection of grasses, natives, exotics and shade trees provide a sculptural element against the stunning contemporary backdrop of the home.
The garden was designed to reflect the relaxed nature of the owners, its purpose to entice people out of the home and into the garden; being a natural extension of the house.
Impressively, the garden is fed by a grey water system. After being processed by sand-filtration, the water is pumped out onto the garden via a drip system.
The short of it…
